Bridgestone, Arlanxeo and Solvay bring TECHSYN tire technology platform onto the market

TECHSYN combines chemically optimized synthetic rubber with a tailor-made silica mixture. In this way, tires can be manufactured with up to 30 percent better wear behavior and six percent lower rolling resistance.

TECHSYN is a new, jointly developed tire technology platform that makes it possible to produce tires with unique strength and environmental performance. A new era of sustainable mobility TECHSYN combines chemically optimized synthetic rubber with custom-made silica that interact at the molecular level. This enables excellent performance to be achieved without having to compromise. Every material found in TECHSYN has been developed in parallel by the three companies to create a tire technology platform that offers unrivaled performance. Thanks to TECHSYN, the tires achieve up to 30 percent better wear behavior and up to six percent less rolling resistance than conventional Bridgestone premium summer tires from the EMIA region. Other performance areas are not affected. During the development of TECHSYN, a special focus was placed on improving tire wear in order to ensure less material loss. With these optimizations, TECHSYN increases the sustainable performance of the tires by reducing overall fuel consumption and CO2 emissions while increasing mileage. The durability of TECHSYN can extend the service life of the tires manufactured with it by up to 30 percent. This results in a tire that has to be changed less often and reduces the consumption of raw materials in the long term. Bridgestone is transforming into a sustainable solutions company that should be completed in 2050 – guided by its sustainability master plan and a series of mid-term milestones. The launch of TECHSYN, a solution that focuses on environmental factors, is an important breakthrough on this path. Combined competencies of three industry leaders TECHSYN shows what can be achieved through close cooperation between the industry leaders Bridgestone, ARLANXEO and Solvay. This cooperation, the understanding between the three companies, as well as a well-founded bundled knowledge of molecular mechanisms made it possible for TECHSYN to go from an idea to a reality in just 24 months. The tire technology platform has the unique property of balancing a tire’s performance in terms of rolling resistance, wear and wet grip and can also be customized to meet different requirements. For example, TECHSYN’s wear benefit can be converted to promote the wet grip of a tire instead.

TECHSYN’s versatility is made possible by Solvay’s unique advanced silica developments, ARLANXEO’s expertise in developing, manufacturing and supplying novel tire polymers, and Bridgestone’s innovative rubber compound technology. TECHSYN was developed for use in various tire categories and vehicles – also in combination with other leading tire technologies from Bridgestone. For example, together with the Enliten lightweight tire technology from Bridgestone tire review, it is possible to further reduce the weight of a tire while maintaining the same performance.
